Just got your license to drive in Florida? Or perhaps you're looking for tips on how to be a better driver? Whatever the reason, here are 5 ways to be a better driver today.
Wear your seatbelt, always. This includes the LAP strap and the SHOULDER strap.
Be observant and look out for potential hazards. If you are required to wear corrective lenses by the State of Florida, be sure to always drive with your glasses or contact lenses. Look at the back of your driver's license and it will show you whether you are required to wear corrective lenses.
Drive at or under the posted speed limit. Every roadway or highway has signs with the speed limit posted for all drivers to see and abide by. These posted speed limit signs are not a suggestion but instead a command.
Avoid distractions. Keep distractions away by securing your cell phone in the middle compartment or a handbag, if possible. Cell phones are a HUGE distraction when on the road and driving, which leads to accidents and tragedy to yourself and others. It is best practice to keep distractions away or at a minimum to maintain your safety.
When in doubt, stop and wait. Many drivers are involved in auto accidents because they believed they had enough time to go through the light, change into a lane, or turn to cross an intersection. If you find yourself hesitant or not sure, just stop and wait until you definitely know you can safely change into a lane, go through the light or turn to cross an intersection.
